Richard W. Wierzba


Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge F. & A. of the State of Indiana 2001/2002

Richard W. Wierzba, the 151st Grand Master was born in Gary, Indiana on December 4th 1936 to Walter and Irene Wierzba. Richard attended and graduated from Tolleston High School in June 1955. His younger brother Ronald was killed at the age of 17 in a car-train accident when he was a sophomore at the same school.

In October of 1954 while Dick was a senior in high school, he joined the U.S. Naval Reserve. He was also dating his wife of 45 ½ years, Elsie (Felinski). On November 15, 1955, Dick went active duty aboard the USS Sigourney DD 643, a destroyer in the Atlantic, home ported in Norfolk, Virginia. On December 9, 1955, Dick and Elsie were married and spent the first two years of the honeymoon in the Navy. On November 15, 1957, Dick was honorably discharged from active duty as a Third Class Machinist Mate.

Dick and Elsie have 3 children, Cheryl (Barry) VanDeursen, Nancy (Tom) Reed and Ronald (Rose) Wierzba. They also have 5 granddaughters and 5 grandsons, Moira, Casey, Jillian, , Matthew, Cody, Tyler, Luke, Lauren and Joshua. In addition, they have 5 great-granddaughters and 7 great-grandsons, Alexandra, Emma, Abigale, Mary, Vivienne, Beckett, Oliver, Brecken, Grayson, Hudson, Max and Ashton. In loving memory of a Granddaughter passed – Mallory.

For thirty-seven years, Dick owned and operated a full service car wash in Gary, Indiana. He is now semi-retired helping his son-in-law on his farm on Lowell.

Dick was raised a Master Mason on May 30, 1977 in Glen Park Lodge #732. That same year he joined the Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend and Orak Shrine at Michigan City. He is also a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute. He served as Worshipful Master in the year 1978. He has also served as Trustee, Secretary for 12 years and Treasurer.

He is a member of the three York Rite Bodies, Valparaiso Chapter #79, Valparaiso Council #86 and Valparaiso Commandery #28 where he served as Excellent High Priest, Illustrious Master and Commander. He is a member of the K.Y.C.H., J. Herbert Nichols Priory #76, also a member of the Merrillville Yeomen of York, Red Cross of Constantine, and St. James Conclave, member of the Supreme Council 33rd and vested with the Demolay Legion of Honor. He is also a proud member of Bartimaeus Lodge #UD F. & A. M., and the Royal Order of Jesters Court #43.

Most Worshipful Brother William D. Blasingame, P.G.M., appointed Dick as Grand Representative to Michigan. In May of 1996, Most Worshipful Brother Blasingame appointed him Junior Grand Deacon. He has advanced through the Grand Lodge Line and on Wednesday, May 16, 2001 was invested with the purple of the fraternity as the one hundred fifty first Grand Master of the Grand Lodge F. & A. M., of the State of Indiana.
